My papercraft and card making projects

Sunday 26 February 2012

edited version with added sentiment
 and butterfly and wishes tag
had a little play with some art parts today

i found these plain wooden wall sconces in a charity shop.
covered in black gesso and some metallic goldfinger paste on the edges.
i covered it in some of tim's stash with multi medium
i found a great way to trim it off ;---- when it was completely dry i used a sanding grip on the edges of the card and sanded right through it against the edge of the wood ... it gave a nice edge with a distress to it.  i smooshed some white gesso through a dot mask as part of the background.
i coloured the art parts with stains and stamped in coffee archival various patterns on each shape, then cut a grungepaper flower using the shape of the art parts and added a button to the centre
the front edge has a piece of 'dots' grungeboard cut with the edge scallop die

i think it needs a sentiment or something .... it doesnt feel finished yet

thanks for looking xx

vogue....

ok ...i got hold of some of this honeycomb paper that tim has started a massive trend for!! lol

spent this evening playing and it was fun!
of course the wordplay die had to come out to play too!

i'm rubbish at photographing anything but i think it looks a bit nicer in real life ... it has a little glow from biscotti perfect pearls over a wash of picket fence stain on tims paper with buttons.
the words are cut out of corrugated card
a few ideaology trims and some ribbon
i could have mounted it a bit better but it is stuck down now! lol  i just wanted to share it so far .... i might do more to it later [i often look at something for hours before realising what it is missing! lol]

i have a couple of other projects half started too ...... more soon

c,")

more of an excited brag than a blog!

i just got home and got a bit over excited when i saw the package from qvc!!
i saw they had this for sale on craft day before it aired so i snapped it up before it sold out!!
i had to post a blog about it, so i'm sorry if i made anyone jealous!! [kaz? lol!!]
even hrh tim couldnt believe they were selling it! [great price too hehe!]

let the crafting begin!!!

you are the one ....

a quick post this evening for a simple piece.

i just got hold of tim's [wooden mounted!] stamp of this face [david??] and thought i would use it with another of his new sentiments from his new stamps release

the base is my favourite 'valise' die cut from tissue-covered mount board, which i ran through a large script embossing folder after treating it to some distress stains and biscotti pearls.  as an afterthought i tried an idea that the gorgeous and talented Kaz told me about - using a few beads of beeswax, heated just with a gun and spread over:  lovely finish!!

the face is stamped onto watercolour card, torn out and 'inked up'!  i didnt want to overdo the face.  the sentiment is also on watercolour card and a little beeswax treatment followed by the crackle stamp [from the xmas set - such a versatile stamp and one i use loads now!]

i had a test piece from a spellbinders ironwork die cut and embossed with verdigris powder which looked nice behind the sentiment.  and i went totally over the top and used a pen nib ideaology embellishment!  it has the small easel on the back .... i am thinking cards dont really need to be standard fold in half things!!

i have another 3 variations of this ready to make as i want to give some more stock to my charity's shop.

tim holtz 12 tags of 2012!!

i am uber-excited about tim's announcement that he will from now be doing a monthly tag tutorial rather than the 12 tags of christmas!
as others have said it is sad that we will no longer be doing the xmas tags, but i think that it was limited to christmassy products and tim has more scope to share his ideas across the year this way.  plus we will have more time to complete each project!! yaaay!!

anyhoo ... here is my version of tim's tag for february.
i used the full size cupid and overstamped the 'love' quotation on it.  i dont have the valentine stamp so i just embossed the tag then swooshed embossing ink over the raised parts then used white embossing powder over it.  it wasnt a huge sucess but most of it is covered with embellishment anyway!
obviously this honeycomb paper is news to most people but i managed to locate some in a uk shop.   [see my previous post if interested]  in the meanwhile i have used a red acrylic heart that comes with packaging from the fabulous art from the heart!
i have ordered some honeycomb paper cos i just love the look on the dressform and on umbrella man!!

thanks for looking xx

pack of cards

this is a project i have had in my head for a while

it is about 3 foot long.

one of my neighbours is a card shop called PACK OF CARDS and the owner very kindly takes some of my cards to sell, so as a thank you i have made her this.

the background is done as in tim's day 12 xmas tag with music and word tissue.  i covered the surface with biscotti pearl spray.  i had to support the back with some wooden battens as it is quite heavy!!

the words are SCRABBLE DASH playing cards [ebay]

on the left is a selection of metal flowers using a technique from tammy tutterow HERE.   i had a great time making these from tattered florals cut from foil sheet.  i love the new ranger enamelling powder.  i added a couple of butterflies cut from patterned card from my stash, and an ideaology ornate plate has the owner's initials covered in glossy accents.

on the right is a selection of gadget gears in various metallic effects, both paint and embossing powder [e.g. verdigris - another fave!] plus idealogy cogs, and some fab laser-cut cogs i found on ebay!    i added 2 moths from paperartsy and the owner's husband's initials in a paperartsy 35mm slide .

ideally i would have liked to mount and frame this but the cost was too much!!

i think it is dry now so i'm about to give it to them.

i hope you like it.  tony x

cupid blue!

all night i had a 'blue-for-boys' version of this card in my head so i just finished it off
the base [both cards] is cut from tim's valise die in mount board, as is the cupid.  i will probably use this more often as it is a good thickness for diecuts and card bases [and very cheap on ebay!!]
i used blue shades of porftfolio pastels, heat set then used a dots mask and sprayed ppearls in green.  again i randomly stamped a heart from tim's valentine set in stream adirondack.
the cupid was also coloured with pastels then crackle added then denim stains over it when dry.  it still needed something so i used interference blue p pearl on the top to make it pop.
the same sentiment [my favourite] i spritzed with bronze p pearl before edging in blue stain.

the postman just delivered some yummy parcels [i'm such a shopaholic online!] so right now i have a pan of embossing powders trying to make some flowers from a demo i saw by tammy tutterow ... lets hope it works!!  great to have a day off!!

love ....

i have been a little absent again ... sorry folks!

i saw a project that sir tim had made in one of mario's blogs, and was inspired to make this using his cut-out heart-with-cogs idea!
i recently got hold of some art parts from wendy vecchi to see what they are like and used a flower here.  got to say i love them!!  i'll be getting some of her new cha releases for sure!
this is not quite a card like i usually make, as it is on a piece of chipboard cut using the suitcase die, standing with an alterations mini-easel.
the surface was kinda coated white so i tried a little frayed burlap and wild honey stain, then oddly sprayed it with ink refresher!  i swooshed a paper towel over and it left quite an interesting base.   i then stamped tim's horlogerie background stamp with adirondack espresso and cranberry  and clear embossed it.  due to the coating the ink 'shrank' a little but it looked good to me!!  i then used the crackle stamp from the xmas stamp set in clear medium and dusted it with pewter p pearl.
i stuck an adage ticket to the same shape cut from chipboard then cut a mini heart from the centre.  i cut a second ticket from corrugated card and adhered various cogs to it - mini die cuts given a rusted look and ideaology cogs and a few watch parts.  i then used glue gel to stick the 2 parts together as by now they had some depth!  all edges inked.  to the heart shape i stamped a phrase which fits the shape perfectly from tims set 'stuff to say' then covered in rock candy crackle, and added 2 pairs of wings; one cut from card which had tissue tape stuck down and crumpled and ironed as in tims 12th xmas tag.  the other set was a piece of glassine crumpled, stained with picket fence, heat set then dusted with perfect pearl then again heat set.  as glassine is a bit flimsy i wanted it a bit more substantial and have discovered something cool;
TIP OF THE DAY!  using glue n seal, you can actually stick glassine to card if you iron it dry!!!  it works!!  well its still stuck down so far!! lol!
there is a piece of spellbinders ironworks diecut at the bottom of the card, coloured with antique bronze cosmic shimmer powder [still my favourite colour!!]
the art parts flower is distress stained in a peeled paint and honey, then i stamped 'love' on each petal using just that word from a corner of a stamp in tim's little labels set.  the centre is another piece of spellbinders ironworks with an acroutements button in the centre.
that was a bit long winded!! lol!
i am trying to be a bit more adventurous with my pieces.

this second tag is actually recycled from last easter!!
i added a new bunny from tims new set stamped with a lace background from artistic stamper.  he look quite hidden but i quite like that!
the butterfly is tims fanciful flight in shrink plastic!  i filled in the wings with various stickles, and added more to the rosette.
the background is from 2011 xmas tags; woodgrain effect.

hope you like xx
